Modern campaigns are presenting different stories that relate to problems from global pressures. James Pamment arguments in his article Digital diplomacy as transmedia engagement: Aligningtheories of participatory culture with international advocacy campaigns rephrase the problem of a recent campaign to end sexual violence. He discussed plans for solutions to problems like this by using different platforms of media. The more people will know about this situation, the closer it will be to finding a solution. Awareness will help to unravel ESVC (End Sexual Violence Conflict).

The case study is to understand that this is an international problem. The British government came up with the idea that this is a global issue that is common for everybody and affects all of us around the world. Therefore, media is the best way to reach people. James Pamment can use the different platforms of media such as, print media (newspapers and magazines) and social media (Facebook and Twitter) to support his ideas and reach more audience. That way the public will be aware of this problem and start to react to it, which promotes advocacy.

Explaining the issue through audio visual can help to sustain the attention of the audience in two ways. People can see the person who is talking and also listen at the same time. The message can be delivered better using a video. An example for this can be using celebrities’ characters such as, Angelina Jolie. She has participated in many campaigns against Sexual Violence. She produced a video on YouTube and explained how in different parts of the world, like Somalia, women are victims of violence, most especially sexual violence.

British Foreign Secretary, William Hague speaks to the delegate

In addition, part of her speech that she gave in 2014, at the opening of End Sexual Violence, she explained how women in South Africa are just like other women in different countries around the world. According to her, “One crucial difference. We live in safe countries with doctors we can go to when we’re hurt, police we can turn to when we’re wronged and institutions to protect us. They live in refugee camps or bombed out streets in areas where there is no law, no protection and not even the hope of justice”. In the article, Pamment mentions communications techniques, which can help to deal with the problem such as, discussions, negotiations and diplomacy. However, campaigns can help the society to be aware of the situation and impact, and the awareness can be created through various media.

Another example of a video that I found related to this topic and can support Pamment's argument is the special event on Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict with the foreign secretary of the United Kingdom and the special representative of the secretary general. William Hague discusses the issue and shared with the audience how this issue should be solved. The more people hear this topic, the more awareness people can be and that is what Pamment was trying to explain as well.

Posting women on social media who were victims and got out of their violent situations is a technique that the campaign can use. By creating relatable stories, victims can reach out for help. That is the purpose of making this campaign. The transmedia storytelling that is being shared on social media can explore the problem more effectively and reach different types of audiences. Pictures and images can help to spread awareness.

According to Pamment's article, "Public diplomacy that emphasizes the role of listening, particularly in terms of polling and discrete inquiries with influencers, before a communicative campaign is conducted" (Pamment, 2015, p.5). The videos as mentioned above can be used to spread awareness for campaigns. Listening and polling helps this because consumers can give their input on videos.

Using campaigns in the different media platforms can help to create awareness around the world. Social media becomes more popular over the years and people can look at it anytime and anywhere. The ESVC campaign involved people that are well known as celebrities and are used to influence public opinion to take an action against sexual violence. It can help to create the interest around the world. Celebrities can influence public opinion.  Celebrities like Angelina Jolie were the face of these important issues and allowed people to talk about it. In the article, Pamment explained theories and how transmedia engagement theories help participatory culture and how it is important to interact on different platforms.
